2008 Governor's Manufacturing Summit
Tuesday, December 9, 2008
Manufacturing is vital to Arizona's economy. It is a sustaining industry that provides high wage jobs and an opportunity for Arizona to become a leader in research and development. At the 2008 Governor's Manufacturing Summit held on December 9, 2008, in downtown Phoenix, business and industry executives discussed issues that are vital to continue and encourage the growth of this important industry in Arizona.
The Governor's Manufacturing Summit is a forum to develop a blueprint that will ensure Arizona manufacturers are able to grow and compete in a global economy. The Arizona Manufacturers Council, the Arizona Manufacturing Extension Partnership, and the Arizona Economic Resource Organization joined together to create a consistent manufacturing agenda that will move Arizona forward in creating a sustainable economy. During the Summit, participants discussed three major issues in manufacturing - workforce development, technology commercialization, and energy efficiency - and ways Arizona can improve in these areas. For example - How can we coordinate efforts to support the resources and supply of manufacturing-qualified workers? How can we facilitate a mutually beneficial relationship between Arizona universities and manufacturers through research and technology support? And finally, what are broad-based approaches across Arizona to address efficient uses of energy in the manufacturing sector? To ensure Arizona provides a globally competitive environment for manufacturing, it is important to discuss and answer these questions. By working together to develop a cohesive agenda, manufacturing can continue to drive economic development in Arizona. Energy Efficiency Position Paper (Draft)
