Arizona Chamber of Commerce and Industry Endorses Jan Brewer for Governor

June 24, 2010

PHOENIX — The Arizona Chamber of Commerce and Industry today announced that it has endorsed Jan Brewer for governor.

“Gov. Brewer has brought a steady hand to the ninth floor after assuming office during an extremely tumultuous period in Arizona’s history,” Chamber President and CEO Glenn Hamer said.  “She has assembled an outstanding staff that shares her commitment to ensuring Arizona’s best days are ahead.  With Eileen Klein, the former chair of the Chamber’s Public Affairs Committee, leading her team, Gov. Brewer has surrounded herself with the best and the brightest in Arizona government.

“No governor has done more to lessen the regulations and red tape facing business.  And her strong push to transform the Department of Commerce into a more effective economic development entity, her commonsense education reforms and her willingness to face the state’s budget challenges head-on has earned her our endorsement.  We wish her the best of luck in her campaign and we look forward to working with her for four more years.”

The Chamber maintains a rigorous process for supporting individuals for elected office. Incumbent candidates were evaluated based on their record in office as it relates to the Chamber policy agenda and their commitment to promoting a pro-business agenda, while challenger candidates were asked to complete a questionnaire about their policy positions before participating in a candidate interview with members of the Chamber Public Affairs Committee.

The Public Affairs Committee made recommendations for candidates to the board of directors, which ultimately voted on the final endorsements. The Chamber requires that each candidate receive the support of 60 percent of the board to receive an endorsement.
